Ford Escape Hybrid Among Least Expensive Alternate Fuel Cars

Aside from receiving praise from Ford CEO Jim Farley recently, the Ford Escape has also racked up plenty of critical acclaim in the form of ranking among the most satisfying compact crossovers on the market, one of the best hybrid crossovers/SUVs, earning Consumer Reports‘ recommended status, ranking as one of the most popular new vehicles, one of the top American models on sale, and one of the top hybrid options priced between $35,000 and $45,000, too. Now, the Ford Escape Hybrid, specifically, has another achievement to add to that ever-growing list after it ranked among the least expensive three-year-old alternative fuel vehicles in a recent study from iSeeCars.

While the Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring surprisingly ranked among the most expensive alternative fuel vehicles on this same list, the Ford Escape Hybrid presents buyers with far better value, it seems. According to iSeeCars research, the three-year-old Escape Hybrid has an average price of $33,508, with the average miles driven per year coming in at 13,993 – which equates to an effective cost of $2,395 per 1,000 miles, ranking the electrified crossover seventh on this list.

To come up with this data, iSeeCars looked at the odometer readings of 1.3 million three-year-old used cars sold from November 2022 to April 2023, and compared those mileage numbers by model to the list prices of the same models when they were sold new. It found that hybrids were driven 12,471 miles over that time period, on average – or 2.7 percent less – than gas cars.

“Range anxiety and charging infrastructure are top-of-mind for EV drivers, and those factors likely limit how far owners will drive them,” said Karl Brauer, iSeeCars Executive Analyst. “Hybrids and plug-in hybrids, where all-electric battery range is limited but range anxiety isn’t a factor, are driven only slightly less than gasoline cars, as reflected in their similar yearly mileage. The price increase between hybrids and traditional gasoline models keeps dropping, making hybrids an increasingly desirable option for consumers looking to keep both purchase price and operating costs low without altering their driving habits or facing range anxiety.”
