Ford Escape Recalled In Australia

With Ford CEO Jim Farley focusing on improving initial quality following a couple of years mired with issues, the company has set standards for all of the models in its lineup in terms of achieving “best-in-class” quality, and has also tweaked its new vehicle inspection process before starting deliveries. Regardless, there’s still work to be done in that regard, and that’s quite clear from the launch of the Ford F-150 in Australia. That pickup has faced multiple recalls and a stop-sale in a short period of time, though in all fairness, some of those issues stem from the right-hand drive conversion process completed by a third party. Now, the Ford Escape is being recalled in Australia as well, according to CarExpert.

Though The Blue Oval stopped selling the Ford Escape in Australia at the conclusion of 2023, the crossover is now being recalled over an issue that could cause a loss of steering control. However, this recall only affects 159 units – all of which were produced for the 2021 model year – so it isn’t terribly widespread, at the very least.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, over time and under certain conditions, friction and excessive movement in the steering gear could result in a loss of steering control,” Ford wrote in its recall notice for impacted Escape models. “A loss of steering control could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

Those that own one of these 2021 Ford Escape models are being instructed to contact their local dealer of choice and make an appointment to have the power steering assembly inspected – and if needed, it will be replaced, free of charge. A list of impacted VINs can be found by heading over here.
