Announced along with the BlueOval City complex in Tennessee, the future Ford EV battery plant known as BlueOval SK Battery Park has been under construction just as long, even though the automaker recently announced that it will only utilize one of its two buildings when it comes online as EV demand has declined. Regardless, this new Ford EV battery plant was previously expected to begin building those units in early 2025, though it seems as if that date has now been pushed back somewhat.

In a recent post on X, BlueOval SK – a joint venture between Ford and South Korean battery maker SK On – revealed that production at the future Ford EV battery plant is now set to begin in late 2025, rather than early next year. The joint venture is still building two plants at the site – which is based in Kentucky – but will only utilize one for the time being, and also recently decided to downsize its Michigan-based battery plant, too, all while cutting battery orders from suppliers amid waning demand.
As for the BlueOval City complex in Tennessee, The Blue Oval recently announced that it’s pushing back its planned production start date for a next-generation Ford F-150 EV pickup there, from 2025 to 2026 as it continues to revamp its electrification strategy. In the meantime, work at both sites continues, with a new training center recently opening at BlueOval SK Battery Park that will get workers ready for next year’s production start.
