Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck Teased Before Pikes Peak

Back in February of 2023, Ford Authority reported that The Blue Oval was working on a new high-performance Ford F-150 Lightning model of some sort, but it was just over a year later when FoMoCo hinted at what this machine might be. As it turns out, that is a totally new EV demonstrator that’s set to debut at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb next month, though other than a single vague image, the automaker gave us nothing more to go by – until now, at least.

Officially dubbed the Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, this new model will participate in this year’s Pikes Peak race as a way to “help advance the company’s electric powertrain research and development,” according to FoMoCo, which has historically been the case with all of its EV demonstrators, such as the Ford SuperVan, another such model that brought home a win in the open class and set a new record at the 2023 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

To prepare the Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck for Pikes Peak, the automaker has added an array of new aerodynamic components to the EV pickup, and also promises that it’ll make considerably more power than its stock counterpart. For now, the automaker isn’t revealing any tech specs or other specifics, but it notes that Pikes Peak is an ideal place to test out EV tech thanks to its high elevations and oftentimes extreme conditions.

While we await more details, we do know that the new Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck will be piloted by Pikes Peak veteran Romain Dumas, and the pickup itself will wear number 150 when it completes its qualifying run in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on June 18th-20th. After that process is completed, the actual hill climb is slated to take place on June 23rd.

  1. Ford has managed to get 1,800 HP from their drag race Mustang so this bad boy could get some of that. Looking forward to it.
