The Ford Kuga PHEV has long been a favorite among new vehicle shoppers in Europe, and in fact, closed out 2023 as that region’s best selling plug-in hybrid of any kind. What makes that feat even more impressive is that the Kuga was a bit old in the proverbial tooth last year, and in fact, has since been replaced by an updated, refreshed model that debuted back in January. Regardless, through the first few months of the year, the Ford Kuga PHEV has remained a hot seller, and that trend continued in April as well.
According to new data from JATO Dynamics, the Ford Kuga PHEV ranked as the third best-selling plug-in in Europe last month with 2,791 sales, which was a whopping 31 percent year-over-year decrease that may have something to do with the model year changeover. Regardless, the Volvo XC60 led the way with 5,422 units – a 50 percent increase – followed by the BMW X1 at 3,342 units sold. Over the past few months, the Ford Kuga PHEV has remained near the top of the European sales charts, regardless. In January, it ranked second in that regard, a position it held onto in February and March as well, with the XC60 coming in first every month of 2024 thus far.
Meanwhile, the refreshed 2024 Ford Kuga mimics many of the changes present on the updated 2023 Ford Escape, including its sharper exterior styling across three trim levels – Titanium, ST-Line, and the brand new Active. Inside the cabin, the 2024 Kuga gets the same 13.2-inch infotainment screen running Sync 4 software and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while powertrain options consist of the 1.5L I-3 EcoBoost gas engine, the 2.5L hybrid, and the plug-in model outlined here.
