Ford Puma UK’s Best Selling Passenger Car Of April 2024

The Ford Puma has been a regular on the best-selling vehicles in Europe list since its debut a few years ago, and most recently ranked among the top 10 best-selling new models in that region in March. However, in the UK, the Ford Puma has been particularly popular, as the crossover was the best-selling new vehicle of any kind through the duration of the first quarter of 2024, too. Thus, it comes as no huge surprise to learn that the Ford Puma topped those same sales chart in April as well, according to new data from The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders Limited (SMMT).

The Puma actually lost its spot atop the UK sales charts in March as it fell behind the Nissan Qashquai, but that was short-lived, as the Puma retook that position one month later by recording 4,339 sales. At the same time, the Qashquai dipped all the way to fourth place with 2,495 sales, placing it behind the Volkswagen Polo and Audi A3. April also marked 21 consecutive months of growth for the new vehicle market in the UK, which improved by one percent to 134,274 sales. EV market share grew to 16.9 percent, though that was largely buoyed by commercial customers – not retail ones.

“The new car market continues to grow even in the quieter months, driven primarily by fleet demand,” said Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive. “This is particularly true of the electric vehicle sector, where the absence of government incentives for private buyers is having a marked effect. Although attractive deals on EVs are in place, manufacturers cannot fund the mass market transition single-handedly. Temporarily cutting VAT, treating EVs as fiscally mainstream not luxury vehicles, and taking steps to instil consumer confidence in the chargepoint network will drive the market growth on which Britain’s net zero ambition depends.”

Meanwhile, the Puma has plenty of momentum as the refreshed 2024 model was just unveiled this past February, ushering in a few updates for the popular crossover. The 2024 Puma only features a few small exterior styling updates, including new headlights, though inside the cabin, the Puma gains a larger 12.8-inch digital instrument cluster and 12-inch infotainment screen running SYNC 4 software. In terms of powertrains, the 2024 Ford Puma comes with the 1.0L I-3 EcoBoost gas engine paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system to generate either 125 PS (153 horsepower) or 155 (153 horsepower) PS, or 170 PS (168 horsepower) for the Puma ST Powershift model.

I only feel sorry for the buyers when they soon find out that the 1.0 Ecoboost engine and a faulty wet timing belt will expose them to high repair costs.
