Back in March 2023, The Blue Oval announced that the Ford Transit Connect had been officially canceled for the North American market, noting that it would be removed from that lineup following the conclusion of the 2023 model year. That was indeed the case, as the automaker opted not to develop a next-generation version of the small van amid declining sales in the U.S., though the Transit Connect does live on in Europe following a total redesign. However, those in the U.S. that still want to purchase a new Ford Transit Connect can still do so, at least, for the time being.
According to Ford’s April sales report, there were still around 2,700 Ford Transit Connect vans in dealer stock across the U.S. as of the end of that month – compared to 5,200 at the end of February – though a quick search online reveals slightly less than 1,000 at the moment. This means that it may take a little searching, but those who want to purchase a brand new Ford Transit Connect may still be able to find one that suits their needs, even though Ford transformed the Transit Connect consumer site into a farewell page for that model recently.
Production of the Ford Transit Connect at the Valencia Assembly plant in Spain ended in late December, though an all-new model debuted in Europe for the 2022 model year and is available in a variety of configurations and with several powertrain options, including a plug-in hybrid variant. However, the new Transit Connect is little more than a rebadged Volkswagen Caddy, underpinned by that automaker’s MQB platform and utilizing the same drivetrain options and output, albeit renamed to fit within the Blue Oval family.
Though it’s been discontinued and inventory is shrinking fast, U.S. buyers did head out and buy quite a few Ford Transit Connect vans last month, as that model enjoyed a 30 percent year-over-year sales increase in Q1 2024, which is precisely why there are fewer on dealer lots at the moment.
