The Ford Transit has long been the best-selling full-size van in the U.S., and also enjoys tremendous popularity in a number of other global markets where it’s sold. This popularity led to a bit of a supply and demand issue over the past few years, though with supply chain issues becoming a thing of the past as of late, Ford Transit production has improved as of late – though not in a consistent way. That trend continued in the month of April, however, which is good news for commercial customers looking to expand their fleets.
Ford Transit production at the Kansas City Assembly plant actually decreased in both November and December to close out 2023, but in January, things improved as The Blue Oval proceeded to build a total of 15,646 Transit models, which was a month-over-month increase of around 14.7 percent, or 2,002 units.
Since then, the Ford Transit has been on a bit of a mixed trajectory, in spite of its status as America’s favorite full-size van. In February, the automaker produced 17,417 units of the Transit, which was 1,771 units or a little more than 11 percent higher than January. However, things once again turned downward in March, as the Kansas City plant churned out 14,018 Ford Transit vans, good for a decrease of 3,399 units or just under 20 percent.
This downward trend quickly came to an end in April, according to Ford’s latest sales report, as Ford Transit production in Kansas City increased by a substantial margin – 1,950 units, or right at 14 percent, closing out the month at 15,968 units. This boost also comes shortly after FoMoCo announced that it was focused on increasing Transit production capacity as it continues to face heavy demand. In fact, in spite of its early year production issues, the Transit enjoyed a roughly 20 percent year-over-year sales increase in Q1 of 2024, accounting for a significant 60 percent market share in the process.

Ford, glad for you that business is picking up … but, there always is one … bring back the Ford Transit Connect Mini Van, make it in passenger models in the short an long wheel base … make the SWB available as a plug in hybrid … you’ll have a winner … again.
