While the Ford E-Transit offers commercial customers an all-electric alternative to its gas-powered counterpart, another company called Lightning eMotors also previously converted existing ICE Ford Transit vans into EVs for some time. Marketed to municipalities, school systems, and medical businesses – and even used in the Winnebago ERV2 prototype – these motors and the EV Ford Transit van conversions are no more after Lightning eMotors entered receivership and was purchased by a third party. Now, those Ford Transit vans – along with an array of parts, tools, and equipment – are being sold via a Tiger Group online auction that ends on May 30th.
This auction will take place entirely online and is a timed event, with bidding already open. Everything will be sold as-is from Lightning eMotors’ facility in Loveland, Colorado, a list that includes 2021-2023 model year Chevrolet Express 4500 Cutaways, Ford F-450 box trucks, Ford Transit cargo vans, GMC 4500 box trucks, and other types of vehicles like school and shuttle buses, along with a variety of trailers.
This sale gives commercial customers the chance to score some interesting machinery at a potentially good price, and it doesn’t just include the aforementioned vehicles, either. Additionally, the auction will feature a pair of dynos, along with automotive parts such as electric motors, gearboxes, batteries, wiring harnesses, and connectors, plus a laser metal cutter, welders, various other tools, and even office equipment.
“Lightning eMotors developed an efficient process for adding new drivetrains, electric motors, and battery packs to existing chassis,” explained Chad Farrell, Managing Director, Tiger Commercial & Industrial. “Fleet operators can achieve their ESG goals or just run cleaner by acquiring select groupings of assets in this sale. It’s a great opportunity.”
