The Ford Authority Take

Ford CEO Jim Farley has made it quite clear that he believes future vehicles will rely heavily on video capture technology, and that has already become the case in many instances. In fact, aside from the many cameras that most new vehicles come equipped with these days, Ford also recently teamed up with ADT to launch a joint-venture dubbed Canopy, which sells a variety of security cameras for vehicles, and we’ve seen prototypes driving around equipped with additional cameras as well. Now, fresh off filing a patent for a system that could communicate privacy rights pertaining to data captured by a vehicle, this new filing presents us with an idea for an event recording system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.

The concept behind this patent is a little different, however, in that it isn’t designed to use a vehicle’s cameras for security purposes, or even for insurance reasons. Rather, Ford proposes using those cameras to record special events that one can later share with people, such as a wedding, birthday party, or any other sort of gathering or occasion.

Future Ford vehicles would accomplish this by incorporating an “event mode” of sorts designed to determine what type of event is taking place, obtain information about that event, and then begin recording it as desired. The system would also be able to transmit that recording remotely, which would come in handy for family members or friends that aren’t able to attend in person. It’s an interesting idea for certain, and one that may wind up coming to fruition at some point down the road.

It’s hard to believe this is t a thing already on Ford. All these cameras on a vehicle shouldn’t be that hard to make them record.

That is exactly what it is. It is more data harvesting for Ford to sell to data brokers. That is why Ford hired Apple’s folks. Because cell phones are the ultimate surveillance product and vehicle manufactures want to harvest your data.

I’m glad the invasive attributes of vehicles are finally being recognized by the public.
