The Ford Authority Take
Ford has filed a multitude of patents recently, all revolving around one idea – how to improve the cargo carrying capacity of all kinds of different vehicles. That list includes ideas for things like a side wall storage compartment, a fluid storage container, a smart container system, and an extended storage system, to name just a few. Now, this newly filed patent keeps that trend going by revealing yet another, similar idea that may wind up being used in future Ford vehicles as well – a modular storage system.
Though the concept of this patent revolves around the idea of adding flexibility in terms of how we transport cargo in future vehicles, it also proposes doing so in a unique way. That is by connected a storage module to the door frame opening of vehicles, which could then extend out. Within that particular piece, there could be several additional compartments – which look a lot like dresser drawers – enabling one to organize goods as well.
If this patent comes to fruition, users would be able to pull the drawers out individually, but also, the entire unit is also shown being removed and even sitting on wheels for easy transport – taking up the entire rear section of a SuperCrew pickup in this case. If nothing else, it’s an interesting idea, and one that could very well wind up being used in future Ford vehicles, too.
