The M-Sport Ford World Rally Championship (WRC) team headed into Rally Portugal with high hopes and a blistering track record so far this season. The team already pulled off podium finishes at Rally Sweden and Safari Rally Kenya and earned a Power Stage win at Rally Croatia. Add another fantastic finish to the 2024 WRC portfolio, as the Ford Puma Rally1 and Ford Fiesta Rally2 racers brought it home in fourth place overall on May 9th through 12th, 2024.
On Thursday, all of the M-Sport Ford team kept their noses clean and had solid runs in the super special stage that day. Adrien Fourmaux even laid down the sixth-best time before going on to challenge the leaders during Friday’s sessions. Fourmaux and his codriver, Alex Coria, then posted the fastest time during the Lousada Super Special Stage before taking on Sunday’s challenges with spirits high. They stayed consistent during Sunday’s run as well, capturing the fourth-best time overall.
Grégoire Munster and Louis Louka, meanwhile, struggled a bit at Portugal. Munster’s lack of experience around the challenging course put him at a bit of a disadvantage. While he avoided incident on Friday, a fueling issue put his M-Sport Ford Puma off the pace, dropping him to 14th. He returned to the course for SS21, but slid off the road and became stuck, effectively ending his run.
As for the Rally2 team, William Creighton left Portugal with valuable lessons learned. He and his codriver, Liam Regan, struggled through slight damage to the front suspension, eventually fighting back to 12th in the WRC2 division.
“Adrien and Alex have once again delivered a faultless performance and matched times of the best in the world across the entire event,” said M-Sport Ford Team Principal Richard Millener. “To see the consistency Adrien is now showcasing on each event is fantastic to see. He had a difficult road position on this event but didn’t let it affect his approach which has resulted in another great result.”
