Mad Scientist Swaps Lincoln V8 Into Ford Taurus Wagon: Video

Engine swaps have been around since, well, essentially the advent of the automobile, many of which revolve around stuffing V8 engines into vehicles that weren’t offered with one from the factory – or perhaps just didn’t come equipped with that type of arrangement. In that vein, we’ve seen some rather intriguing Blue Oval-related engine swaps as of late, including a 1986 Ford Bronco packing the supercharged 5.2L V8 from the Ford F-150 Raptor R, as well as the same engine from a Ford Mustang GT500 stuffed in Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s Bronco Baja Runner. Now, a mad scientist named Marnin Gehman has done something similar with his Ford Taurus wagon, too.

V8-Swapped Ford Taurus Wagon - Engine Bay 001

This video, recently posted to Gehman’s YouTube channel and the Ford Taurus Wagon Facebook group, appears to show a third-generation Ford Taurus wagon that seems to be either a 1998 or 1999 model, based on the tail lights. Regardless, what’s most interesting about this build is that it’s apparently powered by the InTech 4.6L V8 taken from the 1995-2002 Lincoln Continental, judging by the interior bits and pieces we can see in the video

The Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable of this generation shared a platform with that Continental, which seemingly made this swap a bit simpler, and it also presents a bit of an upgrade in terms of output. The stock Duratec 3.0L V6 used in the third-generation Ford Taurus wagon was rated to produce 200 horsepower from the factory, while the 4.6L V8 was factory-rated to make 260 horsepower in the 1995 model year, at least.

In any event, Gehman notes that his Taurus wagon certainly feels more powerful than before, though he still has quite a bit of work to do before this project is finished. The alignment is off, there are missing body panels, and it’s still running the factory exhaust. However, it’s still a pretty cool build, regardless, and we imagine that now that it’s running and driving, the owner won’t have too much trouble sorting everything else out.

This has been done, and with better results.

I’ve got a Duratec in a wrecked 1997, thought about swapping it into a 3.8L powered 1st or 2nd gen. Have to find a nice one with a bad engine/trans, so far, no luck.

The 1996-99 SHO had a V8. That would be an interesting swap into a wagon.

Uhhhh, why not just put a Yamaha V8 from a 3rd gen SHO? Same years as this wagon? Interesting proposition, though!

What would be more impressive is if they get the front end put back together and it looks like a stock car.

    Now that would be cool.
