Just three months into the 2024 Cup Series campaign, “silly season” is in full swing, and NASCAR Ford team Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) is one team with a big question mark for 2025. There are rumors floating around that the motorsports organization could switch its manufacturer alliance to Honda instead of Ford, as SHR has yet to renew its agreement with The Blue Oval. However, more recent information indicates that SHR was in talks to sell off its charters – and that could mean that it closes its doors after the 2024 season, according to TJ Majors on his Door Bumper Clear podcast.
Majors is a veteran spotter in the Cup Series and currently spots for the No. 6 Ford Mustang Dark Horse of Brad Keselowski. While discussing “silly season” rumors in his most recent podcast, Majors said that he thinks SHR is set to close its doors permanently at the end of the season.
“Listen, I don’t know,” Major says. “I think they’re going to sell these two charters to Front Row [Racing]. Now, whether or not Front Row runs both of those charters or leases one is going to be interesting. I can see three fulltime cars.”
Majors also says that he’s heard that “a lot of teams” are interested in Noah Gragson, who took control of the No. 10 Mustang for SHR the start of the 2024 racing season. That alone could indicate that SHR is selling off all its charters and closing its doors, making Gragson a free agent for the 2025 season. If SHR does cease operations next year, that could also mean Front Row Racing becomes a four-car team, and potentially be a landing spot for Gragson.
Additionally, Majors says that Harrison Burton is out at Wood Brothers Racing, leaving the No. 21 NASCAR Ford Mustang open for 2025. He thinks that Chase Briscoe, who currently drives the No. 14 Mustang for SHR, is a shoe-in for that ride. But that still leaves the future uncertain for the remaining SHR racers, including Josh Berry, driver of the No. 4 Mustang, and Ryan Preece, driver of the No. 41 Mustang.
