The Ford Authority Take

In recent years, Ford has filed a number of patents seemingly aimed at innovating and sharing the future of the Bronco, specifically. This list includes filings for an advanced handle assembly, a deployable trail sight, redundant controls, a variety of new accessories for its removable doors, and a vehicle body mounted side view mirror assembly with off-roading and security features, to name just a few. Now, this newly filed patent outlining an idea for deployable screens could wind up being used on the Ford Bronco at some point in the future, too.

We say that because even though the vehicle in these patent drawings doesn’t look much like the sixth-generation Ford Bronco, it is the only vehicle currently in The Blue Oval’s lineup that has removable doors. The concept here is pretty simple, otherwise – Ford is thinking about adding deployable screens that could roll down/up and cover the open door area and the roof panels when they’re removed.

While there are already top coverings that do essentially the same thing, the concept behind this patent is simple – these screens would help keep insects out, and perhaps even provide a little bit of shade from the sun as well, much like a screened-in porch does. It’s a pretty simple concept, and one that likely wouldn’t cost much to develop, making it rather feasible in terms of actually being produced and sold, too.
