While all-electric vehicles have faced their fair share of challenges in the retail market, commercial customers are far more keen to add EVs to their respective fleets – largely, due to the lower operating costs they offer. In that regard, the Ford E-Transit remains one of the most popular fleet EVs on the market today, with numerous commercial customers buying it in large quantities, and that list continues to grow.
In fact, beverage giant Pepsi has purchased 75 Ford E-Transit vans to help expand its existing all-electric North American fleet, the company recently announced. Pepsi is aiming to reach net zero emissions across its operations by 2040, though this latest purchase of Ford E-Transit vans will operate in one state in particular – California – where they’ll serve a wide variety of purposes including sales deliveries and service support. Additionally, this deployment kicks off a job training program for students enrolled in Reedley College and Duncan Polytechnic High School, which focuses on developing hands-on job training in the field of electric trucks and infrastructure maintenance.
“Our fleet electrification is an important part of our pep+ (PepsiCo Positive) strategy and illustrates how sustainability is a core business strategy at PepsiCo – good for the planet, good for our business, and good for the communities we serve,” said John Dean, President for PepsiCo Beverages North America, West Division.
Pepsi is just the latest commercial customer to purchase a large number of Ford E-Transit vans, as that list has also grown to include the public transit agency California Vanpool Authority (CalVans), which just purchased 403 E-Transits last August, as well as energy provider Consumers Energy, which added a handful of EV vans to its own fleet in November.
We’ll have more on the E-Transit soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford Transit news and continuous Ford news coverage.
