The Shelby Cobra shocked the world when it debuted decades ago, and continues to hold down a spot on the unofficial list of the coolest vehicles ever built. These days, however, Shelby Cobra models sell for huge amounts of money, whether they be bone stock originals or finely-crafted recreations from aftermarket companies like Superformance. Thus, it’s a pretty safe bet that this 1964 Shelby Cobra 289 Mark II will follow suit.
This particular Shelby Cobra 289 is up for auction over at Bring a Trailer, and it’s one of just 528 Mark II examples produced between 1963 and 1965. It was sold new by Noble Motor Company in Danville, Illinois, and has since changed hands several times over the years, receiving a fresh paint job and some mechanical refreshing as well. It isn’t completely originally, however, after having been repainted in blue with white stripes rather than its original white with blue stripes, and a hood scoop was added, too.
The black leather interior has been refreshed recently as well, with new foam added to the seats, along with repaired and re-plated seat tracks. Back in 2022, the original 289 V8 received a bit of a refresh to ensure that it runs as good as new, and it’s mated to a four-speed manual gearbox, coupled with rebuilt springs and replacement shocks.
It’s a pretty safe bet that this Shelby Cobra will rake in big bucks once the hammer falls, as we’ve seen time and time again in the past. Most recently, we’ve watched quite a few Cobras pop up for sale and do precisely that, a list that includes the last 289 model ever sold to the public, one owned by Rush drummer Neil Peart, a 1965 CSX4000, and a 427 Cobra previously owned by current Ford CEO Jim Farley.
