2021 Ford F-150 Recalled Over Disabled Reverse Lights

Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2021 Ford F-150 models due to an issue with the reverse lights.

The defect: in affected vehicles – which are equipped with the Onboard Scales feature – an over-the-air software update to the body control module (BCM) may have disabled both reverse lights.

The hazards: disabled reverse lights cannot alert others that the vehicle is reversing, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Components: body control module software

Affected vehicles: select 2021 Ford F-150 models equipped with the Onboard Scales feature that were produced between May 20th, 2021, and December 10th, 2021.

Number of vehicles affected: 159

The fix: dealers will update the body control module software, free of charge.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin July 1st, 2024. The Ford reference number for this recall is 24S38.

  1. THE “DEALER” WILL UPDATE THE “BCM” BECAUSE, ONCE AGAIN, THE “IT” PERSON IN CHARGE OT THE “OTA” UPDATES THAT ARE PRETTY MUCH A WASTE OF TIME SINCE “FORD” CAN’T SEEM TO GET ANYTHING RIGHT DOING THESE “OTA” UPDATES. SPEAKING OF WHICH……. WE OWN A 2022 F-150 THAT WE PAID JUST SHORT OF $90K FOR WITH ALL THE OPTIONS “LARIAT” CONFIGURATION, AND “FORD” HAS AND IS REFUSING TO “UPDATE OUR BLUE CRUISE SOFTWARE TO A VERSION THAT WE CAN ACTUALLY USE”???? OURS IS AT THE FACTORY LEVER 1.0???? USELESS, ABSOLUTELY USELESS. THE OTA GROUP, AND THE CUSTOMER CARE GROUP ARE TOTALLY USELESS BY PHONE, E MAIL, OR ANY OTHER CONTACT. THE DEALERSHIP’S (3 OF THEM) SAY THERE IS NO UPDATE, OR THAT THEY CAN’T DO IT BECAUSE IT (TAKES TOO LONG)????? WHAT A JOKE!!!! JUST A TOTAL JOKE!!!! THANKS FORD, APPRECIATE YOUR NON EFFORTS TO HELP YOUR CUSTOMERS!!!

    1. Sounds to me like Ford aka Recall Motors is not recalling all the vehicles that need to be recalled. All this information about very poor service Ford gives after the sale makes me never to want to ever buy a Ford again. Maybe, after Failure Farley is fired.

  2. I bought my first Ford 2021 F150 Lariat, and I must say that the truck looks awesome and is very Capable. But I have had issues with the Transmission since day 100, and Ford Motor Company., Ford Dealerships, just act as if I’m imagining the issues, the thing slips out of gear into neutral often, I got a “OTA” warning From my Ford Pass App. About my power train, the little wrench 🔧 showed up on my trucks console. And I couldn’t put it in 4 WHEEL drive, or any of the drive modes , So i make an appointment with my Dealership , they couldn’t get me in until 4 days later, well the next day I go out for lunch and the warning light is out and everything is working, so I take it to the dealership and they say that they can’t find anything wrong with my truck, and I tell them it’s the same issue as I had 2yrs ago, and they just ignore me and give me a $350 bill. I love my f150. But I will never ever do business with Ford Motor Company AGAIN!! I have a few more payments and when I’m in the market for my next truck, I can assure you that I will not set foot in a Ford dealership!!
