Prior to the launch of the all-new 2024 Lincoln Nautilus just a couple of months ago, its predecessor was awarded a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in 2023, even as many of its rivals failed to meet the updated standards for that particular type of safety testing. However, following its full redesign, the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus fared even better than the old model in the latest round of IIHS testing.
In fact, the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus managed to bring home a Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS this time around. To earn that particular status, vehicles must achieve “good” ratings in the agency’s small overlap front and updated side tests, as well as an acceptable or good rating in the updated moderate overlap front test, which now emphasizes back seat safety. An acceptable or good rating in the pedestrian front crash prevention evaluation is also required, and all trims must come with acceptable- or good-rated headlights.
The 2024 Lincoln Nautilus managed to satisfy all of those requirements as all trims come with sufficient headlights and a standard front crash prevent system that earned a “good” rating in the pedestrian test, along with what IIHS calls “stellar” scores in the updated moderate overlap test. In fact, both the driver and rear passenger crash dummies showed no increased risk of injury during this test, and the seat belts remained in their ideal positions as well.
All of this is notable not only for those looking to purchase a safe vehicle, but also, given how other models have struggled in this same updated testing. Though the Ford Explorer also earned a Top Safety Pick+ award earlier this year, both the Ford Escape and Ford Expedition performed less than ideally in those same tests, in fact.
