2025 Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational Details Revealed

This weekend, the Ford Mustang GT3 will mark the first appearance for the iconic pony car at the equally iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans race in quite a few years as The Blue Oval attempts to claim victory there for the first time since the Ford GT did it back in 2016. However, the GT3 is just one of many new S650-based racers competing in various motorsports events around the globe, including the Dark Horse R – which is getting its own one-make series called the Mustang Challenge. Now, on the eve of Le Mans, Ford has revealed a new Mustang Challenge event set to take place next year.

That event is the 2025 Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational, which aims to give competitors the chance to achieve their own glory at the legendary track. Held at Circuit de la Sarthe, the Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational is an optional round in the 2025 IMSA Mustang Challenge schedule, and all competitors in that series and qualified owners of the Mustang Dark Horse R will be invited to participate. Additionally, a limited number of additional Mustang Dark Horse R models will be allocated and sold to interested and qualified racers who wish to join the field. Those interesting in purchasing one can register their interest by heading over here.

“The inclusion of the Le Mans Invitational in the Mustang Challenge underscores our commitment to delivering thrilling and accessible racing opportunities,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance. “We eagerly anticipate showcasing the best of Mustang performance on one of motorsport’s most celebrated circuits.”

Ford announced its team and driver lineup for the 2024 Mustang Challenge season back in March, with each vying for a cash prize of $40,000 or a $100,000 scholarship toward a Mustang GT3 or GT4 seat the following season. Ford CEO Jim Farley even got his chance to get behind the wheel of a Dark Horse R at the inaugural Mid Ohio race just last week, too.
