As the Cup Series heads to Iowa Speedway for the first time in the division’s history, NASCAR Ford driver Chase Briscoe is looking forward to what’s in store on the 7/8-mile oval track. Briscoe’s breakout win was earned on the asphalt at Iowa way back when he drove in the ARCA Series in 2016, and he’s thankful for the attention it earned him that ultimately led to his ride in the highest echelon of stock car racing.
In an interview on NASCAR.com, Briscoe reflected on his decisive victory while driving a Ford Fusion race car. The 2016 season was Briscoe’s most successful in the ARCA Series, and one of those wins that set him on the path to the championship. In fact, it was his second career win.
“2016 was without a doubt the year that kinda put me on the map,” Briscoe says. “Winning the championship in 2016, I was able to go on a stretch of four wins in a row, and Iowa was the second one. That was kind of my first big track win.”
He added, “Getting to win at a lot of tracks that the Cup Series gets to go to… super excited to go to Iowa. It’s by far my favorite racetrack. In the past, everybody would always ask me what’s my favorite track we go to, and I’m like, ‘Well, my favorite track we don’t actually go to.’ This year, I’ll finally get to say we get to go to my favorite track, so can’t wait to get back to Iowa finally.”
Putting on a good performance this weekend is paramount to Briscoe’s career. He currently drives for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), where he races the No. 14 NASCAR Ford Mustang Dark Horse, but SHR is closing its doors at the end of the season, leaving Briscoe in search of a ride for 2025. With talent like his, though, he should have no problem finding a landing spot.
