Following a handful of teasers, the all-new Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck EV demonstrator was officially unveiled just a couple of weeks ago as a heavily winged pickup that’s set to take on this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 23rd, 2024. However, at that time, The Blue Oval didn’t provide too many details about the new Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, though it has now shed some more light on the wild machine’s powertrain and other specifics.
The Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck is powered by three STARD UHP 6-Phase Motors and Ultra-High Performance Li-Polymer NMC cells, which generate a combined 1,400+ horsepower, according to the automaker. It also utilizes a ton of trick tech to help get that power to the ground, including a fully custom in-board suspension system, along with aerodynamic elements such as a triple-element front wing, headlight ducts, hood ducts and louvers, front dive-planes, side diffusers, rear diffuser, and multi-element rear wing, which help the SuperTruck generate 6,000 pounds of downforce at 150 miles-per-hour.
Meanwhile, the EV pickup rolls on a set of lightweight magnesium forged wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires, which cover carbon ceramic brakes used to slow it down as it makes its way up the mountain. Romain Dumas, who drove the Ford SuperVan at Pikes Peak last year and is the current record holder, will pilot the Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck this year as he aims to set yet another new record or two.
“After a successful 2023 climb, I’m thrilled to be behind the wheel again with this team and to help push the limits of what an electric vehicle can achieve on the turns of this legendary course,” Dumas said. “In testing, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck has surpassed my expectations, so we are hoping for some good weather to try and do something very special.”
