Following some early challenges – ranging from quality checks to a targeted strike by the United Auto Workers – production of the redesigned 2023 Ford Super Duty quickly rebounded and subsequently ramped up in the latter months of 2023. That trend hasn’t continued through the first part of 2024, however, as Ford Super Duty production has since experienced its fair share of ups and downs, which continued to be the case in May 2024 as well.
In March, Ford Super Duty production at the Kentucky Assembly plant totaled 33,286 units, which was 2,716 units or nearly nine percent higher than the month before. Super Duty production at the Ohio Assembly plant grew from 2,867 units to 3,542, improving by 675 units or more than 23 percent, meaning total Super Duty production increased by 3,391 units or just over 10 percent. Last month, Ford Super Duty production in Kentucky stayed mostly flat at 33,280 units, however, while declining to 2,777 units in Ohio.
According to Ford’s May sales report, Ford Super Duty production at the Kentucky plant dropped to 31,385 units, which is 1,895 units or nearly six percent fewer than April. Production at the Ohio plant closed out the month at 3,370 units, which is 593 units more than April, or a little over 21 percent. Regardless, total Ford Super Duty production declined in May, from 36,057 units to 34,755, which is a drop of 1,302 units, or nearly four percent.
Coming off a total redesign for the 2023 model year, the 2024 Ford Super Duty didn’t receive too many changes for the new model year, as is typically the case, aside from the addition of two new exterior colors – Glacier Gray and Darkened Bronze – though notably, both the XL and XLT trims also gained Ford’s Onboard Scales and Smart Hitch features as options.
