In parts of the world such as Europe and Australia, The Blue Oval has been in the process of overhauling much of its existing van lineup, debuting all-new versions of the Ford Tourneo and the Tourneo Custom, as well as the redesigned Ford Transit Custom and Transit Custom Sport. Amid heavy demand in these van-hungry markets, production of the Ford Transit Custom at the joint-venture Ford Otosan Assembly plant in Turkey should be more than enough to meet the needs of Australian customers as well, it seems.
“The expansion of the Turkey operation has facilitated making more of them. That is really going to make a huge difference, because it just simply means there’s going to be more supply,” Christine Wagner, general manager of fleet vehicles for Ford Australia, explained to CarExpert. Wagner did note that models with the optional dual-sliding doors may face a bit of a delay, but otherwise, the company has plenty of units of the new Ford Transit Custom to choose from. “Other than that, there’s strong supply right from the get-go for those models, so come on down.”
Indeed, there are already quite a few Ford Transit Custom vans on Australian dealer lots, including short- and long-wheelbase versions of the Trend, while the Sport is slated to arrive in Q3. Those trims will be followed by the all-electric E-Transit Custom in the fourth quarter of this year, too.
This production boost comes as FoMoCo has ramped up output of its best-selling Ford Transit to meet strong demand, as well as its van lineup as a whole across the globe. The automaker has also worked to increase its production flexibility amid falling demand for EVs, which allows it to essentially produce whatever customers are buying at any given time.
