Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a coolant surveillance system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on December 10th, 2020, published on May 28th, 2024, and assigned serial number 11995925.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford has filed a handful of patents in recent months centered around one concept, in particular – giving vehicles the ability to detect when something is wrong, and then notify the user that’s the case. This list includes ideas for a vehicle defect detection system, a wheel theft detection system, a suspension damage detection system, and a coolant leak detection system. Now, that trend continues with this new patent filing, which presents us with an idea for a coolant surveillance system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
Vehicles utilize cooling systems in a variety of ways, but as many are well aware, leaks and other issues often go unnoticed in many cases. Thus, Ford believes that there is a need for a more detailed way to warn users when coolant levels are low or if there’s damage to the system, which could help prevent some major repair bills later on down the road. That’s precisely where this system would come into play, too.
This particular system would utilize sensors and even a camera to monitor the state of the cooling system, as well as a controller capable of reading image data. If those items detect an issue with the cooling system of any kind, the system could then warn the user, potentially preventing serious damage to things like the engine. It’s a pretty simple concept, and even if it doesn’t come to fruition in the exact manner that’s outlined in this patent, there’s certainly room for something similar in future Ford vehicles.

If everything under the hood that had coolant in it didn’t leak, we wouldn’t need this extra expense. this is only a ford problem.
How about a system that monitors the 10 speed trans, and all the problems with them. or would it be cheaper to just rebuild this $$ 8500 trans ?
