IMSA racer Joey Hand will be the latest driver to take part in the Stage60 project, bringing his street course expertise to the No. 60 NASCAR Ford Mustang Dark Horse fielded by Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing (RFK). He’ll be the latest driver to take control of the part-time entry, wheeling the sinister Mustang race car around the Chicago Street Course on July 7th, 2024.
Hand is one of Ford’s factory drivers across several disciplines, including the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship where he races a Ford Mustang GT3. He has experience in Australian V8 Supercars as well, just like his fellow Stage60 racer, Cam Waters, who drove the No. 60 NASCAR Ford at Sonoma just last weekend. He has a bit of experience in NASCAR as well – he drove the No. 52 Mustang for Rick Ware Racing in seven road course races during the 2021 and 2022 Cup Series seasons. His best finish was 20th at Sonoma in 2022.
“Saying I’m excited is an understatement,” Hand said in a statement. “To be part of the #Stage60 program is going to be awesome. I’ve gotten close with the RFK team while working with them on the simulator over the past three years and have a ton of respect for what they are doing.”
He added, “I love street racing and have done a lot of it in my career so Chicago is right in my wheelhouse. NASCAR is some of the toughest competition I’ve been up against and there’s nothing like some good street fighting to put on a show for the fans.”
The No. 60 NASCAR Ford will once again carry the colors of BuildSubmarines.com, which has sponsored the entry both times it has been on track this year. As a reminder, RFK created the Stage60 program in 2024 to give international motorsports drivers the opportunity to try their hands at American stock car racing. Since it is not a fulltime entry in the Cup Series, it cannot earn points for any events it competes in.
