Though the Ford Pinto was once an incredibly popular entity among car shoppers, it also became one of the more notorious automotive models in history thanks to a number of rear-end accidents that led to fires, a massive recall, and new federal safety standards that eventually fixed that particular problem. Though it has long been the butt (no pun intended) of quite a few jokes as a result, the Ford Pinto has since seen a bit of a resurgence at various collection car auctions, and now, we have another interesting example to bid on.
That example is this 1979 Ford Pinto Pony Wagon that has a mere 26k miles on the clock and is up for grabs at Bring a Trailer – with shockingly low usage for a vehicle of this vintage. The seller purchased the Polar White model back in 2011 and has held onto it ever since, though it still looks as good as new. The seller does note that it seems as if the hood was repainted at some point, but otherwise, there are no bones to pick on the outside.
That’s also true of the interior, which looks factory fresh and features red vinyl and patterned cloth upholstery along with amenities such as an AM radio, a heater, a defroster, an ashtray, and fold-down rear seats. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated 2.3L I-4 engine, which was factory-rated to produce 88 horsepower and 119 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a four-speed manual transmission.
This is just the latest nice Ford Pinto wagon we’ve seen surface for sale over the past year or so, amazingly enough. Last summer, we spotted a similar white example with 53k miles on the clock, followed by a red 1978 wagon just a few weeks later, in fact.
We’ll have more cool auction finds like this to share soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Pinto news and around-the-clock Ford news coverage.
