2025 Ford Explorer Platinum Exterior Walkaround: Video

The refreshed 2025 Ford Explorer debuted just a few months ago, and is already beginning to populate dealer lots. There, customers will find a revamped trim level lineup – one that’s been pared down a bit, which is also true of the revised model’s powertrain options. However, the 2025 Ford Explorer Platinum is still around, and recently, Ford Authority was able to take a closer look at this luxurious model and all of its pertinent details.

This particular 2025 Ford Explorer Platinum is finished in Star White Metallic Tri-Coat, and is sporting a host of updates. Those begin up front, where one will find a completely revamped look beneath the hood line. That includes the headlights, which contain an integrated daytime running light, a pair of side-by-side LEDs for low and high beams, while a much larger grille resides in between them with a new black and brushed metal pattern exclusive to the Platinum trim level. Interestingly, the Ford badge present up front is not the newer design that we’ve seen on some other recently-refreshed models, however.

Moving downward, we can see a pair of fog lamps within the air intakes, which are functional, along with a new lower fascia design. This houses ADAS sensors and is flanked by a small strip that helps to add a little more visual flair as well. As for the hood, it has a pair of raised sections with a lower portion in between, giving it a more muscular look.

From the side, we can see that there aren’t too many changes present, save for the addition of an optional black-painted roof – a first for the Explorer. The C-pillar is still body color, and most of the rest of what we see here is carryover, including the 21-inch wheels and black plastic wheel well cladding.

That isn’t the case in the rear, where new tail lamps are present and utilize a brand new lighting design with a pattern that matches the front. The lighting runs into the tailgate appliqué, giving it a more modern appearance, and it’s also visible from the side of the vehicle. Ford even integrated its now-common C-clamp element in the rear, and added a redesigned liftgate and lower portion. This particular model also has quad exhaust tips, which are mated to its twin turbocharged 3.0L V6 EcoBoost engine.

As Ford Authority previously reported, the 2025 Ford Explorer will soldier on with Active, Platinum, ST-Line, and ST trim levels, as the King Ranch has been deleted from the lineup, though the Timberline is likely to return at some point. Otherwise, the refreshed 2025 Ford Explorer features a host of other updates compared to the ongoing model, including the addition of some nifty Easter eggs, and, perhaps most notably, the deletion of the outgoing model’s hybrid powertrain for retail customers. The 2025 Explorer does utilize the new version of the turbocharged 2.3L I-4 EcoBoost engine that debuted in the 2024 Ford Mustang, however.

We’ll have more on the 2025 Ford Explorer soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford Explorer news and comprehensive Ford news updates.

  1. Time to get rid of the “cladding”, the only model that should have the “cladding” is the ACTIVE; the ST-Line, the pictured Platinum and the ST would look far better body colour, IMHO
