Chaz Mostert Sweeps Sydney SuperNight 2024 In Ford Mustang Supercar

Chaz Mostert, driver of the No. 25 Ford Mustang GT in the Australian Supercars Championship, swept the Sydney SuperNight races on July 20th and 21st, 2024. Mostert’s twin victories were only part of The Blue Oval’s domination last weekend in Sydney, as Mustang racers dominated the top five in both Race 15 and Race 16.

During Race 15 on Saturday night, Mostert outdrove fellow Ford racer Matt Payne, who drives the No. 19 Mustang, to win. Payne attempted a one-stop strategy in hopes that he could stay out front. Payne held down a five-second advantage on Mostert in the closing laps, but Mostert managed his tires and cut the differential to below two seconds with six laps left. Mostert continued to reel Payne in, ultimately completing the pass in Turn 6 and leading right to the checkered flag.

“The car was really good. Probably had a few different strengths and weaknesses than the guys around me in the first couple of stints,” said Mostert. “Our team was the man of the match for having a super-fast car today. We had to work for it at the start and in those stints, of build gaps. But it was a lot of fun.”

Payne finished second, followed by the No. 55 Mustang of Thomas Randle, the No. 17 Mustang of Will Davison, and the No. 11 Mustang of Anton De Pasquale rounding out the top five.

Race 16 saw Mostert tasked with chasing down Cam Waters, driver of the No. 06 Mustang. Mostert’s team elected to utilize a two-stop strategy, which put him on fresher tires than the one-stop teams, but the extra pit stop put him at a bit of a disadvantage in terms of time.

However, the No. 25 Mustang was a force to be reckoned with, picking up right where Mostert left off in Race 15. With 11 laps to go, Mostert had fought his way back to the front from mid-pack, diving past Waters in Turn 1 as he reassumed control of the race. He went on to lead right to the checkers once again.

“The race car was something pretty special around here. Tonight the car was better again, which is a real credit to the team,” Mostert said. “We’ve just got to keep focusing on what we do, there’s always something we can make it better.”

Waters was credited with the runner-up position, followed by the No. 87 Chevy Camaro of Will Brown in third, Payne in fourth, and Pasquale in fifth.
