The Ford Bronco Sport has performed well in J.D. Power’s U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS) since its launch for the 2021 model year, topping the small SUV segment in the 2022 IQS before falling down to third place last year, albeit still making the cut, regardless. However, the Ford Bronco Sport did manage to bounce back in a big way in J.D. Power’s 2024 IQS, just one year after ranking behind the Buick Encore GX and Kia Soul.
This year, the Ford Bronco Sport once again topped the small SUV segment, ranking ahead of the second-place Kia Seltos and third-place Kia Soul. It’s a strong showing for the rugged crossover yet again, which wasn’t necessarily the case with the Ford and Lincoln brands as a whole. As Ford Authority previously reported, Ford ranked above the mass market segment average with a score of 179 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), but Lincoln fell below the premium segment average at 195 PP100.
The 2024 J.D. Power IQS is based on the responses of 99,144 purchasers and lessees of new 2024 model-year vehicles after 90 days of ownership. Its results are based on 227 different questions and relevant repair data across 10 categories – infotainment; features, controls and displays; exterior; driving assistance; interior; powertrain; seats; driving experience; climate; and unspecified. When the data was finalized, it found that automakers have made strides in certain areas, but continue to struggle with the implementation of new technology.
“It is not surprising that the introduction of new technology has challenged manufacturers to maintain vehicle quality,” said Frank Hanley, senior director of auto benchmarking at J.D. Power. “However, the industry can take solace in the fact that some problem areas such as voice recognition and parking cameras are seen as less problematic now than they were a year ago.”
