Chaz Mostert wheeled the No. 25 Ford Mustang GT to twin victories during Sydney SuperNight on July 20th through 21st, 2024, putting him solidly in second place in the Australian Supercars Championship. In fact, he chopped Chevy driver Will Brown’s lead by 174 points last weekend, making him a legitimate title threat halfway through the season.
According to a recent report from Supercars.com, Mostert’s sudden advance on the championship points lead isn’t anything to sleep on. At first, it looked like Brown, who drives the No. 87 Chevy Camaro, would simply run away with the championship, but Mostert is doing his best to prevent that from happening. But now, after racking up two wins last weekend, Mostert is just 105 points from the top spot, demoting Broc Feeney’s No. 88 Camaro from the runner-up position.
“What a fantastic weekend. To come out of it with two victories, and the way the team did it, was just superb,” said Carl Faux, Team Principal at Walkinshaw Andretti United, the team that fields Mostert’s No. 25 Mustang. “We’re over the moon. Chaz drove an amazing race on Saturday and then backed it up on Sunday. It was real dominance.”
Even so, Faux acknowledges that the next race could be a bit harder, and if Mostert is going to stay in championship contention, the team will have to manage a softer tire compound in Tasmania in a few weeks.
“Now we need to be good again when we go onto the super-soft tire in Tasmania,” he said. “We’re chipping away at it. That will be the telltale for us on whether we can challenge for the championship.”
The next Supercars Championship race is the NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint, scheduled for August 16th through 18th, 2024.

Yes really……one would think a website for and by Ford enthusiasts would get the correct picture for the lead storyline…..however it’s terrific that the Fird teams in SuperCars are finally very competitive in a series that has seemingly forever catered to the GM brands….previously Holden and now Chevrolet……better watch out Fordies ….the series might just change the rules again to give those others an advantage
