Thanks to an agreement with Tesla, Ford EV owners now have access to that automaker’s expansive Supercharger network, which they can now utilize via a special adapter. This piece enables Ford EVs – which are equipped with Combined Charging Standard (CCS) ports – to charge via Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS), expanding the sheer number of available chargers by a large margin. However, there’s just one problem – many Ford EV owners have been facing delays in terms of taking delivery of those adapters.
Orders for this NACS adapter opened up in late February, and owners of Ford F-150 Lightning and Ford Mustang Mach-E models are eligible to get one for free, at least, until June 30th, per the original plan, after which the part was slated to be sold for a retail price of $230. However, as Ford Authority reported in April, The Blue Oval began emailing customers to inform them that their adapter had been delayed due to supply chain issues.
That problem continued into last month, at which point the automaker issued a statement noting that it was still shipping NACS adapters to Ford EV owners, but stopped short of identifying which supplier might be causing this issue. Problem is, that statement came out just over a week before the deadline for customers to order their complimentary adapter.
However, Ford has now extended that deadline to August 31st, 2024 – as first reported by Forbes – which gives those who haven’t yet had the chance to get an NACS adapter more time to do so. Customers can head over here right now and reserve their adapter. As for Ford Pro commercial customers, they’ll be contacted separately with instructions on how to order their own adapters, too.
We’ll have more on Ford’s NACS adapter soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for 24/7 Ford news coverage.
