Back in 1983, a UK-based car enthusiast founded a company called Milltek Sport, which has since become a rather large manufacturer of performance exhaust systems for a number of vehicles in locations both in that part of the world, as well as the U.S. Most of these exhaust systems are designed for cars made in the 1980s up through the 2000s, including quite a few Ford models – which are, notably, emissions compliant. Now, amid ever-increasing emissions regulations – particularly in the UK, which is aiming to eliminate them completely in the coming years – Milltek has doubled down on that commitment.
Milltek Sport is keen to keep legendary Blue Oval models like the Sierra RS Cosworth, Fiesta ST, Focus RS, and even newer vehicles like the Puma ST and Mustang Dark Horse going for as long as possible, all while offering upgraded exhaust systems for those models that are emissions compliant. Currently, the company offers 370 different products for 37 Ford models, and continues to add to that list – most recently providing customers with the only ECE-approved exhaust system for the Mk3 Focus RS, in fact.
This is particularly notable as the UK is clamping down on similar modifications, even recently prosecuting a tuner that helped remove factory emissions controls in a Fiesta ST. Thus, it’s committed to churning out fully ECE-compliant exhaust systems, which – in some cases – are the only legal setups for use on certain models, and even in other European Union countries as well. Milltek’s products come stamped as well, making it plainly obvious that they’re legal for road use.
“Fast Fords have long been a mainstay of the modified car scene, traditionally being very affordable and having plenty of tuning potential,” said Steve Pound, Managing Director of Milltek Sport. “It would be a huge loss if that was not to continue, and by ensuring all our current and future Ford-based products meet or exceed the relevant legislation, we are doing our best to keep the brand at the forefront of modifying culture. We will always have a strong focus on Ford applications, but it is pointless manufacturing and offering products for road use that are simply illegal – as we have seen, that will only harm the industry and could ultimately lead to people not being able to modify these cars.”
