Ford Puma Is UK’s Best Selling Car For H1 2024

After wrapping up 2023 as the UK’s best-selling passenger car, the Ford Puma has thus far continued its success into 2024, most recently coming in second-place in the month of May. However, the small crossover only managed to improve its position in that regard over the entire first half of the year, reclaiming the top spot on the sales charts in the UK in the process.

UK Best-Selling Vehicles H1 2024

According to new data from The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders Limited (SMMT), The Blue Oval sold a grand total of 26,374 Ford Puma crossovers, which was more than any other passenger vehicle over the first half of 2024. It gives the Ford Puma a healthy 2,235 unit lead over the second-place Kia Sportage, even though the Puma ranked a mere eighth in June with 3,169 sales. Regardless, the Ford Puma also ranked first in monthly sales in both March and April, and there may be a valid reason for its big dip last month, too.

That reason could be the fact that the refreshed 2024 Ford Puma was just unveiled this past February, ushering in a few updates for the popular crossover. The 2024 Puma only features a few small exterior styling updates, including new headlights, though inside the cabin, the Puma gains a larger 12.8-inch digital instrument cluster and 12-inch infotainment screen running SYNC 4 software. In terms of powertrains, the 2024 Ford Puma comes with the 1.0L I-3 EcoBoost gas engine paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system to generate either 125 PS (153 horsepower) or 155 (153 horsepower) PS, or 170 PS (168 horsepower) for the Puma ST Powershift model.

As for UK car sales as a whole, they grew by 1.1 percent in June to reach 179,263 units, helping that figure surpass the million unit mark over the first half of the year for the first time since 2019. “The year’s midpoint sees the new car market in its best state since 2021 – but this belies the bigger challenge ahead,” said Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive. “The private consumer market continues to shrink against a difficult economic backdrop, but with the right policies in place, the next government can re-energize the market and deliver a faster, fairer zero emission transition. All parties are agreed on the need to cut carbon and replacing older fossil fuel based technologies with new electrified powertrains is the essential step to achieving that goal.”
