The Ford Transit has long been the best-selling full-size van in the U.S., and also enjoys tremendous popularity in a number of other global markets where it’s sold. This popularity led to a bit of a supply and demand issue over the past few years, though with supply chain issues slowly becoming a thing of the past as of late, Ford Transit production has improved as well – though not in a consistent way. In fact, after increasing in April and May, things took a bit of a dive in June.
According to FoMoCo’s June sales report, Ford Transit production at the Kansas City Assembly plant closed out last month at 15,816 units, which is 1,218 units or just over seven percent less than May’s output of 17,034 units. Prior to that, Ford Transit production had only declined only once, month-over-month in the 2024 calendar year – in March – when it suffered a significant drop from February’s output of 17,417 units to 14,018.
Despite enjoying continued strong sales, this reduction in Ford Transit production mimics that of many other Blue Oval products last month, which is often typical in the summertime. However, the decrease also comes shortly after FoMoCo announced that it was focused on increasing Transit production capacity as it continues to face heavy demand just this past May.
This demand clearly shows up in terms of Ford Transit sales, with the ever-popular model continuing to dominate the full-size van segment thus far this year in spite of these production issues. As Ford Authority previously reported, the Transit enjoyed a roughly 20 percent year-over-year sales increase in Q1, achieving a significant 60 percent market share in the process. In June, the Ford Transit also saw its sales grow by 19.13 percent to 13,077 units, even as overall Blue Oval sales decreased by nearly six percent.
