After spending quite a bit of time trying to fix his girlfriend’s Ford Focus Powershift transmission woes and parting out a wrecked Ford Fusion Energi, YouTuber John Ross from the channel WatchJRGo recently acquired a 2007 Ford Focus for free as a throw-in vehicle of sorts with another purchase. After a little diagnosing, it didn’t seem like that particular car was going to be terribly difficult to fix and get back on the road, however, and that turned out to be the case after all.
In his last video update on this 2007 Ford Focus project, Ross replaced the shifter assembly in his cheap new ride, which he purchased for $190 brand new from a Ford dealer. After that swap and with a charged battery, the Ford Focus drove quite nicely, though there was still a little work to be done. In his most recent video, Ross continues on with his budget project, giving a few finishing touches to make it more road-worthy – and entertaining.
That includes getting the sound system working properly again, adding a free head unit and the corresponding parts needed to make it all work. Ross also goes to the trouble of making the door keypad function like new again, which had quite a bit of corrosion underneath thanks to an old, worn out battery.
After all of this work and some good old fashioned elbow grease, this 2007 Ford Focus is very much roadworthy and looking pretty good, all for a total investment of around $300 – not bad, we’d say. Trouble is, Ross is having too much fun fixing up old Focus models, and already admits that he’s ready to sell this one – though he wants to turn around and buy another one right after that.
