The regular season is winding down across all three NASCAR national divisions. With less than 10 races left in the Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and Truck Series before the Playoffs grids are set, let’s take a look at where the NASCAR Ford drivers would slot in if the Playoffs were decided today.
According to a report from NASCAR.com, if the rest of the regular season was ignored and the Playoffs began after the most recent races at Pocono, the championship-eligible fields in all three divisions would be rather light on Blue Oval competitors.
Before diving in, as a reminder, each driver has their points reset to 2,000 for the opening round of the Playoffs. Each race win grants five Playoff points, which are then added to the 2,000. For example, Ryan Blaney, who has two wins in the Cup Series, gets 10 additional Playoff points for his efforts. Each Stage win counts toward one Playoff point, and each driver to finish inside the top 10 in the regular season gets additional Playoff points depending on their finishing position.
Starting with the Cup Series, where the automaker competes with Ford Mustang Dark Horse race cars, Blaney would be the highest-positioned NASCAR Ford driver in seventh, followed by Brad Keselowski and Austin Cindric in ninth and 10th respectively. Joey Logano and Chris Buescher would be the only other Blue Oval racers to make the cut of 16 drivers, slotting in 12th and 15th.
Meanwhile, in the Xfinity Series, where drivers also race Mustang Dark Horse machines, Cole Custer would be ranked sixth out of 12 drivers to make the cut. Riley Herbst would be the only other NASCAR Ford driver to make the Playoffs for a shot at the 2024 season championship, slotting in ninth.
Finally, in the Truck Series, where Ford F-150 race trucks are run, Ty Majeski and Ben Rhodes would be the only two NASCAR Ford drivers with a shot at the championship in the division. Here, only 10 drivers are able to compete for the championship.
