Though The Blue Oval has significantly dialed back its electrified ambitions as of late, that doesn’t mean the automaker isn’t also continuing to invest heavily in that area, either. In fact, one of several under-construction Ford EV battery plant sites – BlueOval SK Battery Park in Kentucky – continues to take shape, and is on track to begin production in 2025, as originally expected. Now, with the expected population growth that comes along with this new plant, the surrounding area is working to hire more police officers as well.
According to WLKY News, the Elizabethtown Police Department is looking to hire around 20 more officers, which will boost its force to 90 once that process is complete. This is being done as the new Ford EV battery plant is expected to bring in 20,000 new residents to the area, which means that it will need more officers to serve that rapidly expanding community. In fact, the Elizabethtown PD may wind up hiring even more new officers, and the city council has also signed off on a $6 million dollar investment in expanding its headquarters as well.
Then there’s the matter of infrastructure, and in that case, the city is also preparing for a big expansion with a $2 million dollar sewer project that’s already underway, all in an effort to be ready for incoming developers. Additionally, Elizabethtown is currently processing around 1,000 building permits a year, compared to roughly 100 prior to BlueOval SK Battery Park’s reveal.
Meanwhile, hiring has been underway for months at the future Ford EV battery plant, and a dedicated training site opened up this past May.

Build a plant that isn’t needed until at least 2040. Just brilliant. Now does this scream of a company that has a clue?
