Hailie Deegan is out at AM Racing, leaving the seat of the No. 15 NASCAR Ford Mustang Dark Horse in the Xfinity Series up for grabs. AM Racing (AMR), the team that fields that No. 15 Mustang, announced that Cup Series regular Josh Berry will drive the race car this coming weekend at Pocono.
Berry, who is currently competing for the Rookie of the Year title in the Cup Series, is slated to drive the No. 15 Mustang in the Explore the Pocono Mountains 225 at Pocono Raceway on July 13th, 2024. Berry has three starts at the “Tricky Triangle” in the Xfinity Series so far, earning the pole ahead of last year’s race and claiming one top five finish and two top-10s.
“I’m really looking forward to being back in the Xfinity Series,” said Berry in a statement. “I can’t thank everyone at AM Racing and Viva Tequila Seltzer enough for the opportunity. Pocono is a fun track, and I believe we can go out and have a solid result.”
This is the second straight week that AMR has borrowed talent from the Cup Series to pilot the No. 15 Mustang. Last weekend, Joey Logano drove the race car on the Chicago Street Course, netting the team’s first top 10 all season when he finished eighth in the event.
“We are proud of the hard work of our AM Racing team at the Chicago Street Course last weekend,” said AM Racing team president Wade Moore. “We hope to have the opportunity to work with Joey [Logano] again in the future. We are excited about the opportunity to work with another Ford Performance Cup driver, Josh [Berry], at Pocono Raceway on Saturday afternoon.”
Beyond Pocono, it’s not clear who will drive the No. 15 NASCAR Ford long-term for AMR. With Deegan out, it’s likely that the organization will continue to tap Blue Oval drivers from other divisions to race for them for the rest of the season.
