Back in December 2021, New York City began its mission to transition its fleet to all-electric vehicles by 2035 by placing an order for 184 Ford Mustang Mach-E crossovers, which were slated to be used by a variety of agencies including the New York Police Department, the New York City Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Correction, the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Department of Environmental Protection, NYC Emergency Management, DCAS Police, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Thus far, we’ve seen quite a few Mach-E NYPD cruisers out and about, but one recently had an unfortunate mishap during a chase.
[oc] Yesterday a Mercedes driver slams into NYPD car and cops trying to smash into the car after getting blocked in, then runs away

In this dash cam footage recently posted to Reddit, we get to see this wild incident take place as a Ford Mustang Mach-E NYPD cruiser is entering the road from a side street. The EV crossover pulls out on the road with its lights on, apparently attempting to block an approaching Mercedes that’s in the wrong lane. At that point, the Mercedes driver puts it in reverse and tries to get away, while the NYPD officer attempts to block them in – leading to a bit of a dance off between the two vehicles, during which the two apparently collide.
After that happens, two officers run up to the Mercedes and attempt to gain access to the vehicle, but the driver speeds off, prompting the officer in the Mach-E – as well as two unmarked cars behind it – to pursue them. It’s a rather bizarre scene, but it stands to reason that perhaps the police were already pursuing the Mercedes driver and attempting to stop them, which would help explain precisely what’s happening in this footage.

Same oh crap.
Blah blah!
Bob, you did this to a police car, too?
how idiotic do you have to be to do something like that and run all these mercadies and EV people think they are better than everyone else and why on earth would you bee on the complete other side of the road at that point the whole incident is stupid
They were chasing him. That’s why he was on the wrong side.
And that just cost NYPD 60 grand cause they bumped the car and now Ford will want to replace the battery pack and the insurance will total it.
Mercedes drivers don’t have the brains to drive in NYC. And the Mach-E is quite strong. The damages was just scratches to the bumper. No need to replace anything!
