NASCAR Ford Drivers Named For Cup Series ‘Medals’

The Cup Series is taking a two-week break for the 2024 Paris Olympics, but to tide fans over until stock car racing returns at Richmond on August 11th, NASCAR awarded some of its drivers with “medals” to honor their performances thus far this season. A couple NASCAR Ford drivers even made the list, beating their teammates and competitors alike for the honors.

The “Cup Series Awards” in honor of the forthcoming Olympics are cataloged in a report on NASCAR.com. The first NASCAR Ford driver named on the list is Ryan Blaney, driver of the No. 12 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, who landed a spot amongst the “Most Dominant Drivers.” In 22 starts so far this year, Blaney has 2 wins, seven top fives, and 11 top 10s with an average finish of 14.4. While that’s not enough to earn him a gold, silver, or platinum, he slots in seventh among active drivers, tailing Kyle Larson, Tyler Reddick, William Byron, Chase Elliott, Christopher Bell, and Denny Hamlin.

Blaney was also recognized as being one of the drivers beating his teammates the most, placing fourth on the list. That means that he’s outperforming his NASCAR Ford teammates from Team Penske, beating them 68 percent of the time on track. In fact, it’s worth noting that Penske has had an average performance overall this season, but Blaney has stood head and shoulders above the rest.

NASCAR Ford driver Noah Gragson was awarded the “Best Silly Season Pickup.” Gragson currently drives the No. 10 Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) after parting way his his Chevy team late last season. While SHR is shutting down at the end of the 2024 racing season, Gragson has made strides anyway, rediscovering his potential in NASCAR’s highest echelon.
