NASCAR Ford Teams Not Favored In Power Rankings

The Blue Oval didn’t have a great run at the Chicago Street Course on July 7th, 2024, as the Ford Mustang Dark Horse racers struggled to find speed to compete with the Chevy and Toyota frontrunners. While Ford has picked up a little momentum since the start of the year, the automaker still has a lot of ground to cover in the 2024 Cup Series, and this week’s Power Rankings don’t seem to hold the Mustang racers in high regard heading to Pocono this weekend.

In fact, the most promising NASCAR Ford driver is all the way in sixth, according to the latest rankings on NASCAR.com. Ryan Blaney, driver of the No. 12 Mustang, quietly finished inside the top 10 at Chicago, and “it’s been somewhat hit or miss for him since” at Pocono, where he earned his first Cup Series win.

Brad Keselowski, driver of the No. 6 Mustang, is ranked as the next-best NASCAR Ford racer, all the way in 11th, down two positions from previous rankings. While he didn’t perform well at Chicago, he’s been strong at Pocono, although not so much in recent years. Chris Buescher, who drives the No. 17 Mustang, is a past Pocono winner himself and is ranked 12th because he has been mediocre at the track throughout his Cup Series tenure.

Joey Logano, driver of the No. 22 Mustang, is currently ranked 14th as he heads to Pocono, where he has only four top four finishes since 2016. Meanwhile, Chase Briscoe, driver of the No. 14 Mustang, is ranked 17th, Todd Gilliland, driver of the No. 38 Mustang, slots in 18th, and Austin Cindric, driver of the No. 2 Mustang, is the final Blue Oval racer on the list, ranking 19th among the 20 drivers named.

Anything can happen at Pocono, and the NASCAR Ford drivers could very well surprise us. The green flag is scheduled to drop at 2:30 p.m. ET. on July 14th, 2024.
