If the latest Cup Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway hadn’t gone into Overtime, it’s highly likely that a NASCAR Ford driver would have ended up in Victory Lane. Unfortunately, things just didn’t work out in The Blue Oval’s favor last weekend, but it wasn’t for lack of trying. In fact, this week’s Power Rankings show that Ford is on its way up after a rough start to the 2024 season.
The updated Power Rankings from NASCAR.com show several Ford drivers near the top of the list, starting with Ryan Blaney, driver of the No. 12 Ford Mustang Dark Horse. Out of 20 drivers who made the cut this week, Blaney is third, up to positions from last week. While his team is “on fire,” he might cool off at Richmond when the Cup Series returns after its two-week break.
Brad Keselowski, driver of the No. 6 Mustang, also picked up a spot in the Power Rankings this week, slotting in ninth. He was in position to win at Indy, but was neutralized when his race car ran out of fuel. He’s won twice at Richmond, so keep an eye on him at the race. His teammate, Chris Buescher, who drives the No. 17 Mustang, is ranked 12th, and it’s worth noting that he’s in danger of being eliminated before the Playoffs start as he’s cooled off in recent weeks.
Driver of the No. 22 NASCAR Ford, Joey Logano, slipped two positions in the rankings, slotting in 15th. He’s had an up-and-down season riddled with DNFs and other issues, but he’s always strong at Richmond and could turn things around.
Toward the bottom of the list, Chase Briscoe, driver of the No. 41 Mustang, is 17th while Austin Cindric’s No. 2 Mustang is 18th. Todd Gilliland, the man behind the wheel of the No 38 Mustang, makes an appearance on the list in 19th, coming off a strong sixth-place finish at Indy.
NASCAR is taking two weekends off because of the 2024 Paris Olympics, and as previously mentioned, the Cup Series will return at Richmond on August 11th.
