Earlier today, FoMoCo announced that it will begin building Ford Super Duty pickups at the Oakville Assembly plant in Canada starting in 2026, which is a huge decision for a few notable reasons. After production of the Ford Edge ended at Oakville earlier this year, it left the plant with no products, as well as its Unifor-represented workforce staring at a multi-year pause following the automaker’s decision to delay the production start of the all-new Ford Explorer EV for North America. However, Unifor also announced that it will be building a Ford Super Duty hybrid there as well, which is also huge news.
“Under the new plan, Ford Motor Company will begin installation of tooling and equipment for Super Duty production and an integrated stamping facility at the Oakville Assembly Complex this summer,” the union wrote in a statement. “Production of the current generation Super Duty is forecasted to begin in 2026. Later in the decade, Oakville will begin producing the next-generation Super Duty, including an electrified version of the pickup. Oakville will be the sole initial source of multi-energy Super Duty production.”
This means that in the coming years, we’ll see the very first electrified Ford Super Duty hit the market, which is also notable because to this point, The Blue Oval has excluded that particular model from its hybrid expansion plans. Previously expected to gain a hybrid option as part of its 2023 redesign, that never happened, and the Super Duty was also left out of Ford’s recent announcement that it will offer a hybrid powertrain in every model in the Ford Blue (ICE) lineup by 2030.
Regardless, given how incredibly popular the Ford F-150 PowerBoost hybrid has been since its launch for the 2021 model year, this move doesn’t come as a huge surprise. In fact, the F-150 hybrid now accounts for 25 percent of total F-150 production, as Ford Authority reported earlier this year.
We’ll have more on the Super Duty hybrid soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford F-Series news, Ford Super Duty news, and non-stop Ford news coverage.

Pretty smart move. Nothing wrong with eking out a bit of fuel economy, considering most of the Super Dutys or HD’s you see running around are driven without a trailer attached, even if they are still being used for work.
Also imagine how useful the hybrid’s ProPower will be for SuperDuty users. As long as they make the hybrid available in the XL trim, I can see the SuperDuty PowerBoost being a hit with a huge waitlist similar to what the hybrid Maverick experienced.
Yeah, I defeinately discourage anyone from trying to order one. Wait till they hit the lots and 9 times out of 10, you can take it home same day.
Good luck getting one. I ordered a 2023 hybrid Maverick one the first day they could be ordered. It never got built . How about a hybrid Explorer, nevermind Ford dropped those. Hybrid Escape being dropped. Hybrid Edge oh sorry Edge dropped. Hybrid Bronco Sport, now that would sell.
Better get your Hybrid Super Duty order in today. Might see it by 2030.
SuperDuty Diesel/Electric Hybrid…that’s awesome if affordable. Built in Canada, no thanks. No offense to our Canadian neighbors but, we need to maintain USA production everywhere we can.
The better play is not making hybrid 250s more affordable – make it the high hp move, a series smaller diesel genset with just enough plug-in battery to give full punch to electric motors. And then put it in a Navigator trim and eat Escalade’s lunch. PS in 350s up would still be the long haul workhorse.
well in A few years the super duty will be electric so ev fans have something to look forward to and workers and country people will have a reason to dislike Ford Trucks
also does anyone know what the next gen Super Duty will look like
Makes perfect sense to me to hybridize it, get propower, have electric fill in the torque gaps to keep from downshifting. It is adds minimal weight and is paired to a PS HO, we could potentially see a SD with a 0-60 in the 4’s. It already tests 5.5s by Caranddriver. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t revealed with the 2023 update, but they clearly weren’t ready and only just ready now to reveal this plan. It would be more interesting to see how they offer it if crew cab only like the F150 or with either the 7.3 or PS or both. If they offer both, I have a feeling the 7.3 hybrid would come out first and the PS hybrid a few months later.
