RTR Revives 2004 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Mystichrome Paint

Among the many cool and unique automotive paint colors we’ve seen over the years, Ford’s “Mystic Cobra” and “Mystichrome” color-shifting hues used on the Ford Mustang SVT Cobra in the past are easily among the most interesting. It took BASF a total of three years to develop this particular hue, which depicts shades of purple, green, teal, gold, and copper depending on the angle and lighting conditions one views it under. Now, RTR Vehicles is reviving that popular old paint color via a brand new program.

As part of its new extended color palette and paint-to-sample programs, RTR is giving its customers a bevy of bespoke paint options to choose from, in fact. The most notable, however, is Mystichrome, which debuted 20 years ago on the 2004 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra following the launch of the Mystic Cobra in 1996. However, only around 1,000 units were produced with that particular paint, and it’s very complex and costly to respray as well, making it a desirable feature in today’s collector car market.

Now, 2024 Ford Mustang RTR customers can opt for this special paint, but it isn’t the only option at their disposal. In fact, customers can also choose any color they wish and submit it to the company, after which they’ll apply it to a 2024 Ford Mustang RTR. Additionally, RTR has come up with its own list of special hues, including RTR Hyper Lime, Leadfoot Gray, Azure Blue, Rosso Scuderia, Graphite Magno , Lightning Silver, Urban Bamboozle, NATO Olive, Signal Green, and can also apply a matte clear coat to OEM paint.

Mystichrome and Urban Bamboozle are both considered premium paint options, though all paint-to-sample cars will be built using a black model that’s fully disassembled and resprayed – including all the door jambs and other cracks and crevices. As far as pricing goes, standard colors cost $8,995, while premium paint options come in at $15,995, and paint-to-sample jobs add another $5,000 to those tallies.

  1. First: RTR part look like pep boys crap to me.

Second, last I looked for a Terminator a large amount were mystichrome convertibles. No one wanted them because first, who wants a convertible termi? ,second, no one wants to deal with repainting them. There was like 9 in 75 miles on autotrader just sitting.
