Over the years, Recaro seats have been utilized in a host of performance-focused Blue Oval models, including the Fiesta ST, Focus ST, and more recently, as an option on the S650 Ford Mustang GT Premium and Dark Horse – not to mention models from countless other manufacturers. However, it seems as if Recaro has gotten itself into a bit of a financial pickle in recent times.
In fact, according to the German publication Auto Bild, Recaro Automotive has filed for bankruptcy in Esslingen District Court, a move that apparently came as a surprise to everyone – including its employees and the union that represents many of them, IG Metall. At the moment, this doesn’t exactly spell the end of Recaro Automotive, as it intends to exhaust every option to right the financial ship and continue on as it has for years, however. This move doesn’t impact Recaro Group, which makes things like child safety seats, aircraft seats, and gaming chairs.
Recaro actually got its start way back in 1906 as a coachbuilder called Reuterr Carosserie, providing car bodies for Porsche and Volkswagen. However, in 1963, it shifted its focus to making car seats and changed its name to Recaro, and in the years since, has made quite the name for itself in that regard. In addition to a host of performance-focused OEM models that have featured Recaro seats over the years, the company has also supplied numerous units to the aftermarket, including those dedicated to racing use.
In recent months, Recaro has released a host of new seats for Blue Oval models as well, aside from its factory-available offerings. Those include a retro-style seat for the Fox Body Mustang, along with an attractive set for the 2024 Mustang, to boot.
We’ll have more on the future of Recaro soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for non-stop Ford news coverage.

Man that sucks, sorry to hear. And yet another hit for auto enthusiasts.
Wow! That’s a shocker. Hope they get that back on track.
Undoubtedly a move to reduce labor costs and eventually have their product made in China.
Really!? I hope the legend doesn’t get liquidated.
Ah not many electric car buyers specify Recaros, and I guess that they are not Made in China?
Why can’t FoMoCo,GM,Dodge, etc., buy it together, seat’s for all.
No one wants lower Dodge quality.
Kind of hard to get below bottom.
lol, any surprise there? Recaro was bought by a private equity firm in 2020, Johnson Controls purchased the company in 2011 then sold it to Raven Acquisitions in 2020 so it’s really no surprise that they’ve filed for bankruptcy since that is right out of private equity’s playbook. Suck the company dry, throw it in debt and walk away.
Oh now that makes sense.. whenever a company gets business firms involved it’s like going bare legs through the forest as the blood suckers will come to drain you dry. Why do companies keep falling for the same ol scam. Don’t deal with business types
How could this be!? They are the automotive world go to for performance seats, not just for Ford but all auto manufacturers and individual buyers. I figure SPARCO has gained measurable ground in racing applications but recaro has long been the forerunner.
I believe that somebody in that company is stealing the money out of the account and no one is watching. It is inside job for years letting this person or persons get away with it. It time to investigate the company’s
