Supercars Ford Racer Chaz Mostert Focused On Wins, Not Title

It’s never too early to start thinking about long-term championship goals in motorsports, even if only half the season is in the books, but sometimes, it’s best to take things as they come. Chaz Mostert, who drives the No. 25 Ford Mustang GT in the Australian Supercars Championship, is a title contender already, but he says he’s focused on a more immediate goal: winning races.

In a report from Supercars.com, Mostert says that he’s not looking at the end of the season quite yet. He’s more interested in getting his Ford Mustang race car to Victory Lane in the meantime.

“I just don’t think about that stuff,” Mostert said when asked if he was already thinking about the 2024 championship. “For me, it’s just purely trying to win, get on the top step, beat the other guys, and the rest kind of looks after itself. So we’ve just got to be aggressive. That’s our motto at the moment. And as a whole team, we’re doing that and we’ll stick to that.”

Mostert is hot off a pair of wins in Race 15 and Race 16 at Sydney. He hunted down fellow Ford Mustang driver Matt Payne in the closing laps of Race 15, and picked up right where he left off to reel in Cam Waters’ No. 6 Mustang during Race 16. Currently, Mostert is second in the driver standings, tailing Will Brown, driver of the No. 87 Chevy Camaro in first place.

With NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint just around the corner on August 16th through 18th, 2024, Mostert is looking to carry his momentum to the challenging racetrack.

“Tassie is going to be a massive test for us, even though this weekend was so great, and we’ll reflect on it at some point, we’re going to just keep our eyes forward and keep trying to build the momentum,” he said. “It’s just being comfortable with the car out the gate and then trying to work on from it there. So we’ll try to roll out our best car, what we think we’re going to need. Hopefully it’s somewhere in the window, but there is super tough. Margins are so close. If you don’t feel comfortable around there, you won’t be in the fight.”
