Tickford Racing will field the No. 5 Ford Mustang GT for rookie Lochie Dalton in the Australian Supercars Championship event at Sydney Motorsports Park on July 18th through 21st, 2024. The team has now unveiled the race car’s livery for the forthcoming sprint under the lights.
The livery for the No. 5 Mustang is heavily inspired by that of the Mustang Dalton wheeled in the Super2 series, which is the feeder division positioned a step below the Supercars Championship. The race car features a gradient paint scheme that flows from dark blue to white and matches the colors of Dalton’s main sponsor, Fiducian Group.
“I’m really grateful to have all my partners come across from Super2 to back me in my debut Supercars race,” Dalton said in a statement. “It can’t be understated how important they are in allowing drivers to step up to the main game and provide opportunities for myself and other young drivers.”
He added, “Sydney is like a home track to me. I’ve done more laps there than anywhere else, so I’m feeling comfortable heading into the weekend.”
The race at Sydney will be Dalton’s first behind the wheel of a Supercars Ford Mustang GT as a wildcard entry. A wildcard entry offers an opportunity for young racers, international racers, or former Supercars drivers to race in a Championship event as a one-off entry. They are given pit boxes at the end of the line and are not eligible for points.
Dalton won the Australian Kart Championship KA1 Class in 2018, and has experience in the Toyota 86 and Trans Am Series before joining the Supercars grid. He began racing for Brad Jones Racing in 2022 on a part-time basis and began fulltime competition in 2023. He joined Tickford Racing’s junior program in 2024, and is the youngest Tasmanian to ever race a Supercar. His No. 5 Ford Mustang GT3 will ride on a chassis that was formerly raced by Supercars regular Cam Waters, who won the most recent race at Townsville.
