1994 Ford Lineup Featured Lots Of Revamps: Video

MotorWeek‘s Retro Review series on YouTube routinely provides us with some throwback gems pertaining to Ford models from the past, and sometimes, entire lineups from select model years. A couple of years ago, we were treated to an entire overview of the 1990 Ford lineup, for example, though for the 1994 model year, we’ve only gotten a closer look at the defunct Ford Aspire as of late. Now, however, the latest addition to the Retro Review series focuses on the entire 1994 Ford lineup.

On paper, the 1994 Ford lineup certainly had plenty to offer consumers at the time, with a mixture of models to suit every need and taste. The Ford Explorer and Taurus were helping The Blue Oval gain market share already, but they were joined by four new entries for the 1994 model year as well, along with the revamped Ford Thunderbird and Mercury Cougar XR7, which were coming off a refresh with new styling at the front and rear, plus the 4.6L V8 replacing the old 5.0L V8.

Meanwhile, the Mercury Capri got its own revamp for the new model year, with new front and rear styling, albeit the same powertrain. It was joined by the Ford Ranger and the then-available Splash model, which was quite popular at the time and featured a monochromatic treatment and sportier overall appearance. The Ford F-Series lineup got its own updates with a driver’s side airbag, plus the notable debut of the turbocharged 7.3L V8 diesel.

Pretty much every other carryover Blue Oval model got one or two airbags for the 1994 model year, while the Festiva was reborn as the aforementioned Aspire, and we got our first look at the Windstar minivan, the Mondeo, and of course, the latest version of the Ford Mustang, too, rounding out an impressive lineup for the new year.
