Edsel B. Ford II is currently a member of FoMoCo’s Board of Directors – where he has served since 1988 – but he’s been with The Blue Oval since early 1974, previously serving as the president and chief operating officer of Ford Motor Credit, as well as a company vice president. The great-grandson of Henry Ford and grandson of Edsel B. Ford, Ford II is also a big-time car guy, as one might imagine, and this 1997 Aston Martin DB7 was once part of his collection.
Edsel B. Ford – who was just elected to the Motorsport Hall of Fame of America back in March – has owned some cool cars that we’ve seen hit the auction block as of late, including a 1958 Edsel Bermuda Wagon and 1947 Ford Super Deluxe Custom Woody Wagon – and now, his former 1997 Aston Martin DB7 is up for grabs at Bring a Trailer. As many are undoubtedly aware, Ford owned Aston Martin from 1987-2007, so this particular model has additional Blue Oval ties as well.
This particular model also so happens to be the first North American-specification DB7 built, with a chassis number that ends in 101001, which makes it even more special. It comes with documentation proving that fact, along with Ford II’s ownership history. It’s also quite rare as one of just 1,578 i6 coupes produced in total, 108 of which were built to U.S. specifications. This DB7 is finished in Mendip Blue with a Parchment and Pacific Blue interior, and has just 4,700 miles on the clock.
Power for this very special Aston Martin DB7 comes from the supercharged 3.2L I-6 AJ6 engine, which was factory-rated to produce 335 horsepower and 361 pound-feet of torque. It’s mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, making for a truly special package for any dyed-in-the-wool Blue Oval enthusiast.
